Biography
Cassandra began her career in nursing with the United States Army Nurse Corps after she graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was commissioned as an Army officer the same day she graduated and served four years of Active Duty as a Cpt. in the Army Nurse Corps at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D. C.
After practicing nursing for 10 years, she went to law school and graduated with honors from Western Michigan Thomas M Cooley Law School. While in law school she received several scholarships and awards to include The Thomas M. Cooley Alumni Association Distinguished Student Award, Law Review- Senior Associate Editor, Keith Miller Scholarship, Meryl Markowitz Memorial Scholarship, and the John W. Davis Scholarship. Cassandra graduated in the top ten percent of her class with honors; Cum Laude. Later she attended Georgia State University College of Law to earn a master’s degree in healthcare law. At Georgia State University College of Law, she was the first American student allowed into the L.L. M. Healthcare Law program and paved the way for others to follow.
She worked for the firm of Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, DeNardis and Valituttis where she learned Medical Malpractice and advocated for nurses by preparing them for depositions while working as an Adjunct law professor and speaking to various nursing organizations.
Cassandra has always been an advocate for Nursing even while working as a Nurse Educator at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia where she founded a documentation class to educate new nurses on the importance of documentation and the pitfalls of nursing errors as a part of the Nurse Residency Program.
Cassandra has combined her passion for nursing and advocacy skills as an Attorney to assist nurses as well as nursing students and other healthcare professionals to defend their professional license. She also reviews Employment contracts for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, licensed professional counselors and other health care professionals.
Cassandra defends registered nurses, nurse practitioners, CRNAs (nurse anesthetists) and vocational nurses or LPNs from Board of nursing accusations where the nurse is accused of violating the Nursing Practice Act. Cassandra serves as a board member of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys and is TAANA’s State Ambassador for Georgia and Virginia. She is also the Co-Committee Chair for the DEI task force in TAANA.
